A Custom Bike Head Badge Etched in Brass
The backstory on the cat head badge is a really good one, but I'll leave it entirely to your imagination. Suffice to say, this is a real cat named 'white' who always has its tongue sticking out in photos. That just cracks me up.
Armed with a photo and a healthy dose of whimsy, I made six different etched brass bike head badges of this cat sticking its tongue out, two of which have actual textured copper tongues sticking out! If you aren't already aware, a bike 'head badge' is the little decorative emblem or crest stuck onto the handlebar post at the front of a bicycle, usually displaying a sytlized manufacturers logo.
Etching the Cat
The brass (and a few aluminum) etchings were made from a photo taken by Amanda Van Denbrock, a vetern of the Toronto music industry, on May 18 2019. From there, the whole process probably took two months to complete.
...this deep dive is a work in progress, check out the Spilt Coffee Cut Sketch pen stand in the mean time for a look at the etching process.
